Researching my video!

My project is a music video to the song PayPhones by Maroon 5. The genre for this music video is Pop and R&B. To understand how to fully conduct a music video to this genre I researched the Top 20 music videos to this genre of music. In these music videos, there are typically some sort of love interests and there is almost always scenes of parties or fun events happening when the beat drops and the rhythm picks up throughout the music. 

EDITING: In the research I conducted for my music video, I noticed lots of editing and transitional shots all corresponding. There are many different types of editing typically involving jump cuts and fade in and fade outs to transition the scenes smoothly. When the song goes slower, the transitions are faded and more relaxed however when the music pace speeds up, the transitions change to jumpsuits to make the edit faster. Another edit that appeared a lot in these videos was split screens, these split screens showed off the different perspectives of the actor/actress in the video to give the viewer better understanding of the video itself. 

CAMS: The typical Cams of these music videos are focused shots on the actors and the idea behind the film. Examples of typical camera shots used are Wide Shots, Close Up shots, and establishing shots. The idea behind the film and the angles changes the perspectives of the viewers to always correlate to the lyrics of the music video and the perception of the song. 

COSTUMES AND SETTING: The costumes and appearances in these music videos are typically casual. in the music videos I researched, the clothes worn were typical jeans with a graphic tee for the men and as for the women, they wore skirts, skinny jeans, and cropped tops that showed some more skin. The actors in important scenes are dressed nicely, in dresses and nice clothing, however in the upsetting parts of the video, the actors are wearing lazy clothing such as sweatsuits or sweatpants to push further the effect of sadness and no motivation. 

CLAMPS:  In the videos for this genre, they are typically filmed in the car, in a home, at the beach, and at a dinner. These different areas give another outlook to the video and the song being used is about reminiscing on the way a lover and someone used to be. These areas can be seen as romantic and can be used as places to remember old memories with someone you once loved. The different scenes give a better backstory and give more detail for the viewer to work with and understand. In music videos to these genres, angles are always prepared to make the video more dramatic. The lighting is typically darker, creating a later day theme, and the props typically are objects that can be used for transportation, for keepsake memories, or for actions.The music videos to these genres always appeal to your emotions, your wants and needs or your deepest despairs. Whatever goes with the lyrics and idea of the song is what will be portrayed in the music video.
