Beginning of Production
I'm back! It was a great first day of filming today! Despite not accomplishing much..we did start the process. The first two scenes, three scenes, and the fifth scene were the ones we started with. They took place in an airport, a taxi, and a hotel. Our first scene was filmed in an airport, in which Ella and I were going through security and checking in for our flight. It was particularly challenging to film the scenes in the airport as there were a lot of people around. It was awkward to explain that we were filming for a project to staff and it was even more awkward for normal guests just trying to check in. Because we are waiting for spring break before we shoot the plane scene, we haven't shot it yet. As a result, it requires a lot more work and time, and we were pressed for time. We have a few great ideas for the plane scene, but the one we are most likely to incorporate is us both shooting scenes separately on the plane on our way to spring break. As compared to making a fake plane background, we record ourselves on the plane and merge the scenes with transitioning camera angles to make it appear as though we are all on the same plane simultaneously. Our film seems more professional and lifelike to viewers with the plane scene, which adds realism and intricate detail. We also shot Ella and I outside of the airport waiting for our taxi. It was a touristy scene as we stood by all the cars and people rushing to get to our "vacation". For the taxi scene, we filmed taxis going by and then had a friend pick us up in their car so it looked like we were actually in a taxi. Last but not least, we filmed the scene of Ella and I arriving at our hotel and checking in. I found that the most difficult part of filming was dealing with the traffic on the roads due to the time of year, getting parked at the airport took forever, and dealing with awkward social anxiety of being filmed, as well as constantly re-filming in front of many people. It was definitely a struggle getting the scenes to look natural as we both suffer from very bad social anxiety. We were very good at remembering our lines and making the scenes look intricate so the viewers would know where we were during filming. Overall, the first day of filming was successful, though it is definitely something you need to get used to. We are looking forward to getting more done next time and making this the best project yet!
